Scholars Fields - Rent to Buy

Beatrice Asamoah and her husband were delighted to be able to move into a brand new, two-bedroom apartment on the Scholars Fields development in Wythenshawe.

Up until the time that they moved into their apartment, in September 2020, Beatrice lived nearby with her sister, in privately rented accommodation.

The couple both wanted to stay in the local area and with their wedding planned in October 2020, they were keen to find a home to call their own. With high costs of renting, saving for a deposit to buy a property with a mortgage was proving difficult for them.

A friend of Beatrice’s mentioned the ‘Rent to Buy’ scheme to her – something that Beatrice had also read about on social media.  She visited the Garden City Homes website to find out more and saw further details on the development at Scholars Fields.

Beatrice says, “I was absolutely delighted to find an option that suited us.  Something affordable that would help us get on the property ladder.  This was the best way forward for us”.

The ‘Rent to Buy’ scheme is an affordable way for people who are looking to get on the property ladder.  It allows people to rent a property for five years at at 80% of the market rent which gives individuals the breathing space to save a deposit, with the view to purchasing the property.  The scheme is open to first-time buyers or people returning to the house-buying market.

With a busy job, working in the NHS, Beatrice was thrilled to have found a home, close to her place of work, with travel links nearby, directly into the City and surrounding areas, including regular bus, tram and train routes.  The couple were also overjoyed that they were close to one of the UK’s largest airports.

Beatrice was thrilled that her local gym was nearby, which meant that she could walk to her classes, instead of using her car.

She talks about her new home with excitement.  “We were both incredibly surprised when we viewed our apartment.  It is on the second floor of a two-storey building, so we did not expect to have our own entrance, never mind our very own garden, but we were so happy to find that we have both”.

“We have an open plan living and kitchen area with a modern, fresh design.  We were worried about storage and space, however when we moved into the apartment, we were pleased to find it was much bigger than we had thought.”

“Both of the bedrooms are a great size and the quality of the finish in each of the rooms is fantastic.”

Beatrice has already recommended the ‘Rent to Buy’ option to her friends who are in the same situation.

She cannot speak too highly of the scheme and the staff at Garden City Homes, “Communication with Garden City Homes was very clear.  The staff took their time to explain the scheme to us and the application process was exceptionally smooth.  The whole experience was a positive one and we love our new apartment.”
